Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality that uses extremely thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body. Acupuncture points are located on energy pathways (Meridians) that cover the entire body. Each acupuncture point has its own special function. Customized point combinations are chosen to harmonize the patient’s energy (Qi).

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by selecting points on the body where nerves, muscles, and connective tissues can be stimulated. The presence of the acupuncture needle regulates communication between the brain and the body, activates the immune system, calms the nervous system, improves blood flow, and triggers the release of the body’s natural pain killers.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are the size of a few human hairs and usually cause little to no pain. Most people describe an acupuncture treatment as very relaxing and many even fall asleep.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

Traditional Chinese Medicine includes Acupuncture as well as needle-free treatment options such as: Chinese Herbal Medicine, Cupping, Gua Sha (muscle scraping), and Tui Na (Chinese Massage).

Traditional Chinese Medicine can help treat or manage symptoms related to:

Back Pain · Headaches · Depression · Anxiety · Insomnia · Excess Stress · Common Cold · Autoimmune Disorders · Sports Injury · Allergies · Fertility · Sexual Function · Smoking Cessation · Chemotherapy Side Effects · Skin Conditions · Wrinkles/Fine Lines · Neuropathy · Stroke Recovery · Pediatric Conditions · Fibromyalgia · Frozen Shoulder·  Sciatica · Gastrointestinal Disorders · And many more!

How quickly can I expect results?

Some people notice results right away, while others may not see results until the next day or after several treatments. In general, the longer you’ve had the problem, the longer it will take to heal. The ultimate goal of treatment is to resolve the root cause of your symptoms so that eventually, you only need occasional maintenance.
