Meditation & Mindfulness Offerings

Individual Meditation Sessions

Individual meditation sessions are an opportunity to explore meditation in a way that’s tailored to your particular background, interests, and meditation experience. While each session is unique, common elements include discussing any meditation-related comments or questions you have and learning new meditation techniques based on your experience level and circumstances. Outside of exploring formal meditation practices, it’s common to discuss how your meditation practice can help cultivate healthy relationships and manage life’s stresses. All levels of meditation experience are welcome.

Shen offers individual meditation sessions online currently (and sometimes in Shen’s meditation room). Sessions are are offered on a donation ("pay what you want") basis, following the ancient meditation tradition. As part of giving back to the community and supporting local meditation teachers, Shen freely hosts meditation classes, retreats, and individual sessions. Teachers are not compensated outside of any donations received.

Individual meditation sessions at Shen are currently paused.

Please note that meditation is not a replacement for therapy or mental health practices. If you’re unsure if now is a good time to explore meditation in your life, please ask your mental health professional.

Small Group Classes

Group classes are an opportunity to meditate and discuss related topics in a small community environment, normally 5-8 people. Many people find meditating in a group to be a crucial foundation for their practice and serves as a way to reconnect and build momentum each week. All group classes are taught by an experienced meditation instructor. All levels of meditation experience are welcome.

Daylong Silent Meditation Retreats

Daylong meditation retreats are an opportunity to set aside the demands of life and focus fully on meditation practice for a dedicated period of time. This enables us to practice deeply and develop continuity of mindfulness, and can be a great source of inspiration to our greater meditation practices and daily lives. A normal daylong retreat schedule alternates between sitting meditation and formal walking meditation every 30-minutes, with a period for lunch midday. Outside of guided meditations and Q&A sessions, the full day is held in silence as a support for everyone’s practice. It’s helpful to have a regular meditation practice before attending a daylong retreat, but all experience levels are welcome to attend and explore deepening meditation practice in this format.
